Sian Bonnell, Putting Hills in Holland, 2001
Sian Bonnell’s Putting Hills in Holland series always makes me smile. It’s one of those ideas that seems so obvious the minute you see the pictures but they charm me much more than I would ever expect.
Essentially the series does exactly what it says in the title, but somehow it’s something more than the one-liner that makes it sound like. In the end I think it’s that the pictures make me laugh and that they are actually very beautiful. The colour palette is lovely and the random selection of objects to make the hills makes is pleasingly bizarre, with jelly moulds featuring rather more than one would expect in landscape photographs. I have a suspicion this series was every bit as much fun to make as it is to look at.
I love Sian Bonnels work!
